Teenage Girls Programmes

Our ACFS Teenage Girl’s Programme focuses on building confidence and sharing information amongst young girls to assist them through the difficult years of adolescence. The Teenage Girls Programme is structured to ensure that twice a week they receive formal interventions such as “teen-girl” talks, career development, as well as various skills development topics including debating, gum boot dance and drama classes, aimed at building self-esteem and resilience to help the girls reach their full potential and future career dreams. These programmes and activities help ensure that the teens are kept busy, focused and away from the streets so that they have the best chance of completing school before falling pregnant, or becoming sexually active too early with limited sexual health information and protection. For those who have made a mistake of falling pregnant they also get full support to recover and get back to their normal lives again.

All the girls are also part of our nutrition programme and receive daily hot meals as well as fruits to ensure that they access a balanced meal. The girls selected come from very poor and food insecure households.

The main aims of the programme are to reduce the risk of HIV infection, sexual and gender-based violence, provide reproductive health services and to promote female empowerment and economic strengthening interventions that protect them from early marriages, engaging in risky behaviors and dropping out of school. It also provides a comprehensive, multi-sectoral package of core interventions addressing key factors that make girls and young women particularly vulnerable to HIV infections. The programme also provides young women with comprehensive, evidence-based interventions and services to reduce HIV risk from sexual partners, strengthen families, and mobilize communities for change.

Your support for the Teenage Girls Program allows us to sustain the program by providing necessary essentials such as

  • Sanitary and menstrual cups, that assist in ensuring that Teenage girls remain in school and combat period poverty,
  • Toiletry packs to support girls with deodorants and other grooming essentials.
  • School stationery supplies as well as much needed journals where each girl gets to document her own journey through her teenage experience
  • Basic food parcels, to help especially those that are food insecure.

We are grateful for your donations, which will enable ACFS to assist, empower, and uplift these girls through the Teenage Girls Clubs and Safe Hubs, guiding them towards making informed life decisions.
