ACFS Community Education and Feeding Scheme

  Vision
Care for Children
To promote healthy contributing South African Citizens who are economically viable, self sufficient and enjoy individual financial freedom.

A happy individual will yield a happy family and a happy family will yield a happy society, and finally a happy Nation. Then this world will be a better place for us all.

Since 2004 the strong focus for ACFS is the Care for Children programme. Child headed, orphaned and vulnerable families are given support that was previously unavailable.

The objectives of this programme are:
  • To provide care for child headed families by making sure they are well fed, they attend school, they have clothes, they have a care giver and are emotionally stable.
  • To arrange social grant applications and waiving of school fees.
  • To mobilize the community to assist in the care for children by organizing seminars, workshops, etc, also classes in parenting skills, and the understanding of adolescents.
  • Attend to the well being of the children.

In order to achieve this output, the ACFS needs to be able to fund home and school visits by community care workers to look after the children (clothing and food) and evaluate and attend to their situation. Further activities include group discussions and classes on parenting skills and helping with applications for grants through the social welfare system. This is only possible with funding from donors and state help.

'Love Thy Neighbour' Ubuntu
The ACFS has for some years instituted the 'Love they Neighbour' campaign and although the emphasis has now moved to the 'Care for Children' project, the 'Neighbour' campaign is still in full swing.

The objective of the 'Love they Neighbour' Ubuntu campaign has been to break the stigma surrounding HIV / AIDS with a view to re-awakening the extended family Ubuntu culture. Programmes such as the following are integral to the endeavour: Training on Home based care nursing; home care; counselling sessions; weekly support groups on HIV / AIDS; schools talks and workshops for voluntary testing and counselling; the encouragement to use anti-retroviral drugs; Peer counselling and training in high schools.
