Stepping up from poverty

hspace=20While feeding malnourished children is at the core of what we do we’re often able to go above and beyond to answer the prayers of a starving family. Your support helps us to distribute monthly groceries to people in desperate situations – which is invaluable to families who’re barely surviving.

Fumbatha family

Nomonde Fumbatha lives with her ten children and grandchildren in one house in Kagiso. Her oldest daughter Nomathasamqa is only 23 but circumstances have left her with four children to look after. They have no furniture and use curtains for doors. Both women are unemployed and none of the children receive a support grant because both Nomonde and Nomathasamqa don’t have identity documents. They desperately needed our help …

So we’ve been doing everything we can from providing food parcels to clothing for the young children to ward off the cold Gauteng winters. We’ve also been helping them to apply for identity documents taking them one step closer to getting support grants.

Back on solid ground

That’s the difference you make. The assistance we’re able to give these families means they have a stable
support system to build from. The Mathai family was in much the same boat as the Fumbatha’s. Elizabeth lives with her six daughters and 14 grandchildren – 21 people living together in one room! Ranging from three to 17 years all of her grandchildren depend on her pension fund … which isn’t enough to feed the whole family. On top of helping out with food parcels and bread and milk to keep them going we’ve also been helping them with their grant applications and identity documents.

Standing by their side

It’s the caring support that friends like you provide that helps these families survive. Not only that but it gives them the boost they need to lift themselves up out of poverty. Thank you for going above and beyond in making sure that women and children won’t go hungry tonight!
