We rise above our challenges to work togetherYou may not know it but your support of the ACFS is channelled into support groups at all of our 13 feeding centres – what we call the ‘Love Thy Neighbour Ubuntu Campaign’. Our support groups educate youth and communities on an ongoing basis about important subjects like HIV/Aids; sexuality; teenage pregnancy and the challenges that face poor communities on a daily basis. And we’re starting to see many more people coming forward without fear to openly talk about these subjects. It’s really heartening to see people’s positive attitudes and improved self-esteem. You can even see it in their physical appearance and greater self-confidence. People are sharing ideas about healthy lifestyles and gently encouraging and assisting others in the group. Motivation to carry on Thanks to the kindness of our friends – people like you – these support groups are growing and helping people to rise above their challenges. The group members have been sharing ideas of ways to earn money through skills development and they’re motivating each other to develop their own food gardens for fresh vegetables. It’s like the words of this song: “Lean on me when you’re not strong I’ll be your friend I’ll help you carry on.”
