Message from our Chairman

If I was on death row and had to order my final meal, it’d be red meat and dumplings. It’s comforting, delicious and honest food; and there’s something appealing about that. The peanut butter sandwich and milk holds that same appeal.

By serving this meal each day to children from impoverished communities, ACFS donors are preventing thousands of cases of malnutrition – and even death – every year.

As an ACFS donor, you’ve made the decision to contribute towards the environment around you. I thank you for that. We are all aboard the same ship, the SAS South Africa. We can’t just look after ourselves – because an estimated 2,5 million children are going hungry in South Africa; and one in four are undernourished.

In October last year, following the tradition of previous ACFS chairmen, I hosted the annual ACFS Fundraising Gala Dinner at Deloitte. Guests pulled out their chequebooks and raised an incredible R1 million.

Generous gestures like these are becoming more important to non-profits; who are struggling to retain corporate social investment funds in this challenging macroeconomic climate. I thank each and every donor for embracing your responsibility to others and for supporting the ACFS.

Lwazi Bam
ACFS Chairman
